Reclamation and Surface Engineering

LaserBond™ can reclaim worn industrial parts at a fraction of the cost of replacement. The resistance to wear and corrosion can be improved, and the performance enhanced. New replacement parts can be “surface engineered” to provide longer service life.

The benefits are:

  • lower running costs
  • minimized down-time and breakdowns
  • reduced waste of high value materials
  • increased productivity/up time
  • reduced spare parts inventory

Cutting Edge Technology

The processes involve low heat, extending the range of components that can be reclaimed and materials that can be applied.

Imagine…

  • not having to purchase or stock replacement parts for machinery - they can be quickly and economically rebuilt.,
  • equipment running longer between maintenance shutdowns - the surfaces of critical components can be engineered for longer life.

The technology we use has made the “impossible” possible. Our systems are amongst the most advanced in the world. In terms of surface engineering, our capabilities are the broadest in the country, allowing us to offer the most appropriate solution for each application.

Some of the industries we serve include:

  • steel making & processing
  • pumping equipment
  • valve equipment
  • paper making & conversion
  • timber
  • mining and minerals processing
  • rail transport
  • trucking & road transport
  • power generation
  • water & waste water treatment
  • aluminium making & processing
  • plastics
  • packaging
  • toolmaking
  • glass manufacturing
  • automotive and motorsport
  • concrete and concrete products
  • building products
  • printing
  • aerospace
  • pet food
  • food
  • marine
  • defence
  • agriculture

LaserBond™

LaserBond™ achieves a welded bond with limited and precisely controlled heat input. Heat sensitive components, such as hardened shafts, gears etc, can be repaired without risk of distortion or other undesirable heat effects.

The metallurgical bond allows LaserBondTM applied layers to be used in high impact and other heavily loaded situations. With this welded bond, we can guarantee a LaserBondTM layer will not spall or separate from the component or substrate.

The controlled energy minimises the undesirable thermal decomposition of hard phases such as carbides, resulting in superior wear resistance.

Due to the extremely low dilution with the substrate, high performance surfaces can be applied in a thin layer. Corrosion and wear resistant surfaces as thin as 0.3mm are possible.

Heat affected zones are minimised and the cracking inherent in welded or PTA applied hard facing is typically eliminated.

Typical LaserBondTM applied materials include Tungsten Carbide, tool steels, stainless steels, Nickel alloys such as Inconel and Cobalt alloys such as Stellite1, and copper and copper alloys.

We have designed and built out LaserBondTM system to be very flexible. Very small components up to large rolls of 1600mm diameter and 6m length can be processed. Hard to reach areas such as inside diameters and recesses (eg crankshaft pins) can also be repaired.

Engineering Workshop

Large capacity lathes, grinders, mills, borers etc are all used to restore components to precise tolerances and required surface finishes.

Superfinishing

Using semi-automated equipment and precision diamond abrasives, we can finish any of our surfacing materials to a mirror finish.

Site Work

The workshop is set up for flexibility to handle a large range of components. However, if your equipment is too big to economically dismantle and transport, we can carry out thermal spray operations on-site using our trained and qualified operators. We have successfully carried out thermal spraying on sites all over Australia.

Technology, Leadership and Strength

In today’s competitive world, industry must minimise the cost of wear in industrial processes. LaserBondTM remains at the forefront of developments to assist industry in these endeavours.

Our customers are reaping the benefits of longer component life, reduced down-time and lower costs. We’d be pleased to discuss solutions for your wear and corrosion problems.
